My hc suddenly have broad leafs and grew tall. I did not touch the lights since day 1 though. It carpeted nicely and have quite a lush growth after 6months of planting, until this happen.

Ive read that its the micro nutrient that im dosing kcause it.

    Any advise?

    khairilishak,

as with other posts in this forum, we require your current setup to be posted to comprehend or provide some advice. If not, we are also stabbing in the dark when it comes to what advice to give.

Anyway, when growing HC, lots of people find it a demanding plant. Some small numbers of forumers here find it relatively easy but they are the more experience ones.

But I believe, the main culprit of your HC growing as it is, is due to not enough CO2 or in others you might not provide unlimited supply of CO2. Unlimited supply does not mean overdosing of CO2 which could potentially kill your fish/shrimp - just excess enough before your fauna feels the effect of an overdose. For me, I based on 1° pH drop, example before CO2 injection in the morning my pH is 6.8 so I target my pH gradually towards 5.8. The keyword is gradually. For me it's 6hrs based on my tank volume and amount of fish I have. I start injection 1 hrs before lights.

The lack of light, to a certain extent, will not cause HC to grow the way it did like in your tank. Too much light have the same effect as too much fert dosing, algae. I found this out when I did a year's worth of experiment on my tank, that light is important but not THE main limiting factor when it comes to aquatic planth growth or algae bloom. CO2 is....provide unlimiting supply yet not overdosing, will see good plant growth. Of course, with a good regiment of nutrient dosing and such.

To further add, you can see the immediate effect of overdosing CO2 (fish stressing out) compared to overdosing nutrients or light and so you can adjust faster with CO2 as compare to nutrients and light which may take days to see changes. Just dial up your CO2 injection and don't be bothered with things like pH/kH table or bubbles per min. The important step is to be gradual in increasing.

Once you are sure your CO2 dosing is the unlimiting factor wait for 1-2 weeks to see the plant effect, if any, before further experimentation.

    Hi greenie,

from this explanation I think I know where I did my mistake and will start my experimentation process right away!

Appreciate your reply and thank you again.

These don’t look like hc to me. Is it a mistaken identity?

Would be nice if you keep trimming until it grows bushy.

Hi greenielike to hear your advice on this. If CO2 indicator is yellow but fishes not stressing out, is it ok to leave it alone? Or is this wasting CO2? the bps count is not high anyway.

    Isn't hc - Hemianthus callitrichoides?

Yes HC is Hemianthus callitrichoides. What you have growing tall is Hemianthus micranthemoides. Seems mixed with HC. Your 1st pic showed the HM.

But certainly this looks more of a h. micranthemoides then a hc. And definitely remembers the packaging has the 'cuba' if not i wouldn't have purchased it.

Im slowly removing the HM out.. someone must have change the tub with the wrong label then..hmmm..

But for that I need a confirmation from you that the hm do look similar to a hc when in tropica's packaging(rounded leaves)?.

    TIA!
