Why dun you cut one segment with some plants in it and grow them emmersed? It will be faster that way.
Does anybody know how to encourage N. japonica to put out new "plants" from their tuber? The one I've got probably has a tuber about 4ft long in total and has about 4 or 5 "plants" growing off it.
Can I notch the tuber, like the technique of notching Anubias rhizomes to encourage side shoots? I can't dig it up, notch it and replant as it'll be too big a mess. So, I'm wondering if I can let tuber segments float or sit around in a tank and wait for new shoots.

I don't think N. japonica grows emmersed.
I've tried some searching for info... all I can find describes them in submersed form and no mention of emmerse form except for emmersed (floating) leaves.
