Additives from ADA are optional. You can have great tank with just ADA Aquasoil or other equivalents like Gex soils or ANS soils.

    Re: ada substrate additives

I read an article on Amazonas Magazine some time back about aquascaping.

Creating Nature: PART 2 • IMPLEMENTATION

I tend not to use any soil additives, as I usually break down an aquascape after a year or so and like to start out with fresh, fertile soil.
The author mentioned the above and I tend to agree with it. I'm assuming that soil additives are not really necessary unless your aquascape are meant for a long term.

    Hope that helps.

Investment and long run? I don't think so. New startups by new hobbyist do not usually last more than a year before their tanks are taken down for rescape or quit due to algae. This is a very unforgiving hobby, just to let you know. There are heaps of people who spend 1k to 2k on their setup and when they give up or change their mind just a few months later, they can't even unload their used chillers, tanks, accessories for 40% of the initial retail price. Look around carousel and ASAP FB group site and you will know what I mean.

My advise in this hobby is don't spend too much. Just buy what has been proven and works, good to read ADA magazine and know what's the latest products, but check feedback here and on FB on what is recommended.

    Good luck in your setup.
