    Hi,
I have my 4ft planted tank for about 1.5years now. The fertilizers were the ones in the Yellow colored tubs, I forgot what is the brand name.

How long does the fertilizers stay effective?

I saw JBL initial plant sticks at LFS and read from the box that these sticks are used in new tanks without the fertilizers underneth. Just stick these sticks into the gravel and you'll have a fertilized gravel.

I am thinking of re-fertilizing my tank using these. Any advise?

hmmm.. substrate fert should last up to 5yrs or more, depending on the type of plants you have. But if you want to revitalise your substrate, you can try monster roots under your plants. I havent used those sticks you mentioned, so I shall not comment on it.

I've used the JBL initial sticks before.
I usually insert them near the root region of the plants.
However, i insert them not so deep, so as not to disturb the base fert.

In the package, there are two type, one is the initial stick while the other
is said to promote rooting. however, the later is more expensive.

    cheers

    Thanks.
What was your experience with the sticks? Are they effective? Do you see any Agea growth or any effect on this fish?

I only used them for new and expensive plants,
so as to improve their chance of survival, as their roots
might not be able to uptake the nutrients from the base fert.

So far no algae problem or any fishes affected, as it is buried under the gravel.
However, i prefer to use the tablet together with the stick which is more efficient.

    Cheers
