Is there any recommendation of placement of cave for apisto?

Should it be in the open area or more on the planted areas?

I find that my borelli pair seems to hide behind the rock scape instead of the numerous caves in the open... how to lure it to the open? tried putting food near caves doesnt help...

just worry that if they spawn eggs outside... it will be harder to manage... at least if in the cave i can just move the whole cave to a breeding box...

Could it be the water flow or the lighting (if any)?

Hmm. Why not leave the eggs with the parents and let them care for the eggs and fry? That's half the fun in keeping cichlids isn't it?

hmmm... dun think is the flow... maybe is the light? but got driftwood with moss to cover... not much direct light on the cave...

it is a community tank... i suppose keeping it separately will increase the fries survival rate?

is there a way to lure the apisto to the cave?

re: luring to cave - AFAIK, no.

re: comm tank vs species tank - yes, definitely species tanks will improve survival rates. dither fish are sometimes helpful in a species tank - but avoid fry predators (most tetras!). fish with small mouths are good options, e.g. many pencilfish, small tetras (ember, ruby tetras), Iriana therina, etc. a big tetra, e.g. cardinals, or two is fine, but a school of them will overcome the mother's ability to protect her fry.
