Hey everyone, after missing for a long time (was busy with work and life), I'm back to harass you people with more questions.
Long story short, my new house will be ready by Q4 of 2019, and I am being allocated a space for my 3 x 2 x 2 feet tank and I'm wondering how should i do the setup?
Planning to grab a chiller without a canister, filter planning to go with UGF.
Fauna: CRS and/or RCS.
Need advise to see if it is possible to hook a IOS tank directly to a chiller without the messy pipes running around?
Any pictures of current setup for reference would be nice

How does this work UGF? IOS?
Underflow from the UGF goes into the IOS compartment?
Will there be an overflow?

Wow... Shrimps in IOS tank! Bold project
The idea i had in mind is half bare bottom tank, the other half will be partitioned and filled with soil and UGF. the UGF will go into a canister which ends up in chiller and back to tank.
Soil bed - Filter media - UGF
The IOS will tentatively have smaller intake grates - wool - Filter media - aeration (and a pump to chiller) + outflow back to tank.
While it's a weird idea, but my goal is to have:
- a bare bottom base,
- some soil for buffer
- some sort of connection to chiller
- a surface skimmer
- Minimal hose running around (more hose = more leak potential)
Still brainstorming for ideas to have all those
A tank with a EOS filter would do the trick.
The underflow with gravel plate will address the UGF.
Overflow will take care of the skimmer.
You can do all sort of stuff with a sump filter.
Plumb the pump into the chiller then return back to the tank.
Everything hidden in the cabinet.
