Oh I should add that even after I clean the tank of the hair algae and brown algae these things still remain. I tried rubbing them off the leaves but I feel that there should be a better way.
Hey guys
Can anyone tell me why my plants are constantly looking so dirty?
Like there's a layer of dust or something.
Is it the lighting? Or flow?
Or is it normal?
The tank is a very basic planted tank with java fern, anubias and some kind of sword I think (pls help id if possible).
I'm running a pretty small led light with no CO2.
The tank is filtered with a DIY wet/dry filter. Just a regular input and an overflow.
Don't mind the rest of the tank. I know there's some hair algae and some brown algae.

Scroll down to the section on "Diatoms". If your tank is newly setup, the diatom bloom is a rite of passage. If it's an older tank, something's likely off with the filtration as the biofilter not doing its job.

Try cleaning with melamine sponge. Used it before and the leaves turned out very clean.
