Wallichii – How does it react to being trimmed?

My Rotala Wallichii has grown rapidly since plant out day, so much so that after 35 days it now touches the water surface [74cm], kind of ironic as I thought this plant would not get much taller than 30 cm.

Some of the growth patterns are here

Anyway I need to trim this plant and was wondering if anyone else has it and how does it react?

My inclination is to trim at the back of the tank first, leaving 15 cm of stem, which I think would be enough stem to take up nutrients as I am sure that this plant absorbs via stems/leaves maybe more so than the roots. If new growth comes quickly then I will do the rest.

    Thanks

You can trim all you like. There will be side shoot and will have a more bushy look.

If you trim of the top and leave the bottom in the gravel, it will produce side shoots which will make it more bushy. If you don't want that, pull out the plant, cut off the bottom and replant the top. Of course this is more work.
