Welcome. I'm not a betta keeper but a fish person on the whole. Plants just make the fish look better which is why I'm here. The people here (were here) seems to lean towards wild betta as can be seen in the fauna folder. have a look, you might just cross over to the tannin side.

Hi Bryan, thanks for your reply. I'm not just siamese fighting fish, I also have corydoras and dalmatian mollies aswell as various tetra and danios. My pride and joy are my betta boys though. So much character and each has their own personality. Tannins? Is that katapa leaves? Suppose that mimics the natural environment. Does it benefit the fish in anyway? Or does it just taint the water?

Tannins are the substance released from leaves organic matter and wood decomposing in water. Some aquarist like it, others don't. It mimics the natural water condition for some species. There is plenty of material on this to read up/ watch on the web so you can weigh the pro and cons.

    Re: Hi I'm new

Thanks for the reply. Been watching YouTube videos about tannins. My friend didn't want her clown pleco so I said I'd take him. So it was a simple case of add wood to my tank as he eats wood if I'm not mistaken. So looks like I'm having tannins after all. What a reason to get rid of a fish, "he is boring I never see him". Some people!
