Single stage regulators sometimes suffer from End of Tank Dump or EOTD. You can Google for more info. Basically, when the cylinder is almost empty, the regulator will allow much faster (i.e. dump) CO2 flow. In many cases, this leads to too much CO2 in the water and kill the fish/shrimps, etc.
Dual Stage prevents this problem.
Caution: Many regulators label themselves as dual gauge which just means 2 gauges. Nothing to do with stages. Some people misread or get mislead.
Hard to find dual stage in SG (assuming you're here). I get mine from http://CO2art.eu. If you're not in a rush, can wait for days like Black Friday.
