Most people here do not quarantine their fishes, because they buy them to compliment their aquascapes. If they die in 2 to 4 months time, it's fine. They're just buy the same fishes from LFS and takes photos before updating them in their threads. Fishes are really cheap here, not costing more than $1.50.
For me, it's fish's health > aquascapes. Which is why I've been keeping the same cardinal tetras for almost 3 years now. Lost about 3 tetras during 1 month quarantine and subsequently another 4 during the first 2-3 months when they are introduced to the tank, fortunately no more deaths after that.
My friend's runs a 5 feet tank, low light, no co2, no fert, floating plants, half yearly water changes and his ember tetra and gold tetras were breeding frequently. He started sometime back, so I believe he already has 2nd generation of the tetras.
