errr...i think the downoi will creep and then send out more of himself.. when they have taken root and are more mature you can just snip the creeper..and separate.

pardon me, but aint downoi a stem plant?
I've got one downoi that somehow had it's roots melted away, so I cut away the melted part and have to let it float around the tank as what left is too short to be planted into the substrate. (Tried planting a couple of times but to see it floating again the next day ) After something like 3-4 weeks, some new roots had developed and on closer inspection, found that it had also produced 2 tiny off shoots about 5 mm in diameter. If these off shoots grow larger, can cut and plant them seperately. Had replanted for 1 week now and it manage to stay grounded. Hopefully the new roots will not melt away this time.

I think it gives quite a simple an clear idea on how to do so.
Downoi is a creeper. (I think...someone told me).
It certainly behaves like one...put it for a while and you can see the roots "creeping" around to grow new shoots.
stem plant? err.... dont know leh..but mine creeps like crazy...bought 2 now i have 6... and in just 1 and a half months..
Took the main stem today. The small one have roots as long as 3-4cm.

One of the best ways to propagate the plant is to leave it alone as new plantlets will form and "creep" along the gravel. Although it is a stem plant, it really does creep. If you observe carefully, it is not the only stem plant that creeps. Bacopa Caroliana for example creeps as well.
Cheers!
I rather call the stem a rhziome.
Some thailand friends of mine grow them tied onto rocks, nothing gets into the sand. the downoi grows and grib like a anubias.

normally i juz cut in between the stem and replant.. those tat i cut will grow side shoots..
to propegate dawnoi once the plantlet grow roots you can cut it and pluck it into the substrate
the reasons why it melt, most prob you put it into a "new water" tank ... My experence is the water have to be matured. If you really want to propegate fast you can cut the stem of the adult plant .. that what the farm did initially
