Hi All,

I am based in Singapore, and after a few decades out of the hobby, I would like to start an aquarium again. I want to include some shrimps, and figured that it would be best to choose easy, robust species.

I have read some excellent comments about the Malawa shrimp, Caridina parvidentata, also known as Caridina pareparensis parvidentata (old name):

This shrimp is from Sulawesi, but unlike other Sulawesi shrimps, it is quite robust and tolerates a wide range of water conditions and temperatures. It is not very colourful, but apparently quite active and fun to watch. It reproduces well and is apparently not threatened in the wild (https://www.iucnredlist.org/es/species/197853/147789878).

I have been trying to obtain this shrimp here in Singapore, but so far to no avail. I have also contacted Prof. Peter Ng (National University of Singapore) and Dr. Cai Yixiong (National Parks Board), who reclassified C. parvidentata as a separate species in 2009 (https://doi.org/10.1080/00222930902767482), but they were unaware of local sources for this shrimp.

The Malawa shrimp seems to be readily available in the aquarium trade in Europe (https://www.aquagear.at/Caridina-par...Inlandsgarnele) and North America (https://www.ebay.com/itm/126181083624).

Would anyone be able to point me to a source for this shrimp in Singapore, and/or in South-East Asia? That would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

Matthias.
