I have been wanting to get a digital camera for a long time. I must profess that I know nothing about photography. Would it be worthwhile to get a DSLR camera, eg Canon 350D, and hope to be able to pick up the skills later.
As it cost quite a lot to me, wouldn't it be a waste if I'm not able to make full use out of it? But supposed I'm determined to be a 'professional' photographer and feels that I could be talented in this area, should I? Or should I just start with a mid-range digicam?

What I hope to achieve ultimately is more than just decent shots of aquariums and plants'/animals' close-ups.

    Regards,
    Wong Chee Ming

We all learn it one way or another. There is nothing wrong with your approach for getting a DSLR, or at least that's what you want. If you seriously regret after a while, you still can sell it off.

if you have the determination, interest and commitment, then you should go for it

Improve you will, if more photos you shoot. Anyhow, realise that DSLRs are not meant strictly for pros, you must....Have fun shooting then

All voted for! Thanks for the encouragement. But it would still probably take me a couple of months to decide
