I've always liked this plant, but everytime i keep it, it grows for a couple of weeks/months putting forth nice leaves and roots, then it suddenly dies, leaving behind a tuber which subsequently rots away.

temperature of tank 26, ada soil, tank conditions appear good enough to grow balansae/tonina.

should the tuber be buried or left lying above the substrate? other tips?

    Question boivinianus

have the exact same problem. costing a lot of $$$.

given up on the aponogetons, madagascariensis, boivinianus, la di da,
except for undulatus and crispus which thrive in my 26-29c tanks

me thinks cold water. 24C-26C, and observing bloody hibernation period.[when leaves drop]wrapping it in soil, bag it and put in crisper for a month and replant.
[extremely clean water for the madagascars.]

well onll telling what the lfs boys tell me...
but i give up for now, till i setup my altum tank...

    Dear Lougarou,
The Tuber should never be buried under the gravel if not the plant will die.
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.

Ditto... same experience... after few months of superb growth, all that left are the bulbs. Did not bother to hibernate them but always try to germinate the seeds I manually pollinate from the flowers. undulatus and crispus are evergreen whole year round in my tanks.
