** Rocketshrimp, Thank you for the alert and link. I edited this post to exclude the specific LFS name for sensitivity issues. Even without the LFS name, this thread still serves as an alert to all hobbyists to be careful when they make purchases anywhere. The mis-information could have come from higher up the supply chain. Edited portions are in italics. ~vinz **

I came across an LFS which is selling flourescent shrimp, zebra shrimp, black shrimp, rainbow shrimp, red-nose, rocket, green. I was like wow...never heard of most of them before, SHAME on me, being a shrimpy fanatic...

However, when I was there...and be warned..I find that they are selling nonsense, passing low grade shrimps off with some fanciful names.

The black shrimps, rainbow shrimps looked like malayans to me.
Zebra shrimp - looks like some poor grade of bee.
    Red-nosed shrimp...I don't what they are...like some cherry hybrid
Rocket shrimp - rockets...rockets are also known as red-nosed/mosquitoes shrimp. Hence there is no such thing as a different kind of shrimp for red-nosed.
Flourescent shrimp - some kind of rockets, without the red nose...this I have seen before. Body shape of a rocket. Not sure what you call them.
Greens - are ok, not bad.
    Yamatos - ok
    cherries - ok
There are some big looking shrimp which they are selling for $5 each...
those looks like glass shrimp to me. $5? I can get a whole packet for $1.

For those that don't know about shrimps, this listing is a good guide.

Mosquito Shrimp, [Caridina gracilirostris de Man, 1892]. I got these from my local LFS [Biotope]:

    Rupert,
these are called red-rhinos...notice the 2 red lines on the tail. Mosquitoes don't have this. This is a new kind of mosquitoes variant.
