Add some KNO3 (5-7ppm) back into the tank and use them as nutrient indicators since they are the fastest growers in the tank (they are not CO2 limited unlike their submerged aquatic counterparts and hence grow pretty fast).

Hi guys!
My frogbits are turning yellow and there's a couple of leaves who's sides are rotting. Main plant's still sprouting shoots but they generally don't look too healthy to me, even the newly sprouted plantlets.
Light's 36W over a 2 footer low maintenance tank w/o CO2.
Anything I should dose or add?
Out of curiousity, does anyone use the condition of their frogbits / floating plants to give an idea of what's lacking in his tank in terms of fert or lighting?
Cheerio!

We had something similar back in this thread http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ead.php?t=5743

Thanks mates!
Will get down to doing something about it asap!

Add KNO3/KH2PO4 and traces, this one is a very weedy species.
I have 40 x 25 liter tubs full of it and double it's biomass every 2 weeks.
We are studying it in Ca since no one has done herbicide test on it.
Got to know how to grow it well to kill it.

?!?!?
I really must have sone stuff missing in my tank! What have I been doing!!!
Here I am trying to grow them, and people across the globe are trying to exterminate them. Aargh!!!

Such is the case for most aquatic plants, they are often very weedy.
That's where most of the funding and research is done on them.

My frogbits are normally without roots. The yamatoes just love to eat the root portion. Is this normal?
I have Yamatos that eat the roots of my floating Salvinia too. Not sure why they like it.Originally Posted by cbong

yeah.. the Yamatoes are nibbling on them. But to eat the entire root system is really a lot of work! These frogbits have really long roots!
Update: Sprouting still, dosed some TMG liquid fert. But still melting away... Hmm....

They pick critters off the roots to eat, the roots are bothered by this and do not do well. So even if they do not eat the frogbit roots, it'll still impact the roots' development(or lack of).
Plants that are stressed of rotting will also be eaten, snails do this also but leave healthy plants alone.
