MH.
pros: 1) not bulky: pendant style that is:, good light intensity, replace bulbs every 2 years. prices comparable to multiple PL.

Heard that in HK, HQI Light very popular...
keith, I'm using 8x30wFL for my 6ft without any probs.. my tank consist of only echinodorus species.. (never change the tube for 2yrs liao )
it depends on the type of plants and the theme of the tank.. if u using low light plants (echinodorus, crypto, anubias, fern..etc) then go for FL or PL
it oso depending on the choice of fishes.. some fishes dun like strong light.. (discus/altums)
pro of MH: strong intensity (good for high light plants, bulb last longer than all other lights, allow open concept), able to penetrate deeper tanks, without any probs
cons: heat, cast hard shadows
the price of MH has got down alot... u shld consider using PL or MH
i find the mh lights abit glaring. stare to long will see stars.
when you stare at bright florescent tubes you'll get blinded too
ergo, don't stare at the lights!!!
krkrkrrr... u will get used to the glare.. like what yimin mentioned, even FL is glaring..
can someone advise me on the cost for MH lamps?
Regards
William

effiency wise MH will be better. However, for bigger tanks will work best with MH. Having 2 MH lights would minimise hard shadow casting. Smaller tanks would be best with FL/PL. Bear in mind that to mount MH lights, minor drilling of the ceiling would be needed. Thus, which is appropriate much depends on your situation and setup.
Guys
I heard that if MH is used, we need to install a chiller, otherwise, the temp of the tank will be very high..

william, the height of the MH can be adjusted, thus, u can use a fan
I have the intention of getting a 4 or 5 ft tank thus I tot it would be better if I go for a 150 - 200W MH.
Can anyone advise: -
1) Wat is the average water temp if you put a DC/ AC fan
2) Wat is the color of the bulb. Based on my understanding, MH gives out an orange light compare to the bright white given out by PL/ FL.
Thanks!
