Advice needed (tank 4)

Hi. Last one... The 4th tank is of a similar size to the 3rd but it is something like a viviarium. I have 2 hermit crabs in it and placed some nanas where the water meets the land. I tried placing java moss and nanas in the water but they rot and die. What are the chances of Nanas surviving long term IN water?

Of late, I noticed some small, glassy worms swimming in the water portion of the tank and would like to introduce newts/fish to take them out. What would be good? I've tried the fighting fish but the hermits' venture into the water killed it (from shock, as he was dashing wildly before he just kapooed). There is no filtration for the water, which is about 3" high only.

Any recommendations?? Anyone here tried newts?

Pardon my ignorance, but shouldn't hermit crabs be in sea or at least brackish water?

Newts will not do well at all in anything but freshwater.

Will try to take pics... They are land hermits and I keep them on wet sandy land with access to fresh water. They dislike water, preferring to climb onto the plants and rocks and only venture into the water, I think, accidentally. The few which died all died inside the water. Seems they find it difficult climbing out pf the water... Now I have plants floating on the water (3" high only) for their easy access if they accidentally venture in it again.

Wonder if the pics will show well... These are the older pics. Now had a wild betta sp. in the water. Had not identified the betta yet and hope it will survive!! The tank has a rather well established population of tubifex worms and a couple of snails as well...
