Those of u who have seen the Java Ferns in the tanks of Pet Safari, are they the large variaty of the fern family, or just the normal ones that grows big.

I noticed that the shape of the leaves is somewhat different from the normal ones.

If there is indeed a large sp., anyone knows if Teo has them, or any other places I can get them.

    Thanks.

I think saw this large Java fern in Gan's outdoor tubs. Since he gets his plants from Teo, Teo should have also. Dun know how much. Nice, but they take damn long to attach to the wood.
The Taiwan shop at Serangoon North sells the narrow leaf Java fern, $10 per loose bunch.

    Hi guys,

any tips or advice on how to propagate java fern? I know its a low light and maintenance plant, but it don seem to grow very much since buying them from Capricon.

    my setup is a 5ft tank with lighting, 36W x 2 (PL).

Any comment and advice will be wonderful.

I dont have any certifiable tips on growing Java fern successfully, but mine seems to grow well (from a 1cm leaflet into a 'bush' the size of two fists)because it is in the path of a water current.
What I mean is, when I disturb the bush when I clean the glass in front of it (it is completely pressed up against the front glass: time for pruning), I see a lot of detritus fly into the surrounding water.
That shows that lots of stuff get caught within the bush when the water passes by.

at the initial stages it takes time for roots to form, but after that if u let it grow undisturbed in one spot, it should take off quickly. My java ferns are the only plants in my tank that pearl.

Peter, those are the spores. Ferns are non-flowering and produce spores to reproduce. They are not harmful. Small plantlets will form if you leave them alone.

recently dunno why not doing so well.
