Hi, thinking of getting rid of my 2ft tank and keeping a smaller tank for quarantine instead. Is that too small?

How about filter? Don't want the hassle of an internal filter, so can I use the Eheim Liberty 100? If I need to medicate, will then remove the carbon mechanical/chemical cartridge, leaving only the bio cartridge?

Thought of a canister like 2231, but when I want to leave the tank empty, canister will just be sitting around...[:]

Thanks in advance, for any advise.

why would an internal filter be a hassle? juz leave it running
the eheim 200x series are good
some people like the eden series more
either way, it should work for your quarantine tank, which btw, is just nice in terms of size

My friend, you NEVER throw away an eheim filter unless it spoils. It's like selling a rolex for a swatch.. no way man. Top of the series.

The Eheim Liberty series are good choices. Small and portable. Easy to clean too.

    quarantine what kind of fish?

personally i will recommend 2ft tank
more "humane" space and also you can use the standard overhead filter. It is the best filtration all round for small tanks.

i have an overhead filter box meant for 45cm tank (can be smaller and bigger also no problem)

i can give it to you
just connect up to a small pump/powerhead and you can have superb filtration for a small tank for almost free.

    lsz, LOL, [] [] []

like the nightlight tank, this quarantine tank is also another excuse to have another tank, lah!!![] shh...!

seriously (ahem!) i didn't want to use a 2ft tank, cos i foresee that i won't have many fishes to quarantine. my existing tanks are already "full", in the sense that if i do buy fishes, it'll only be 1 shoal, maybe 2. so the 2ft tank will be a big white elephant.[]

i just want to put a small tank there, for "just in case" moments.

i just gave up a 2ft in order to bring in a 3ft. and anyway, if one fine day, i do manage to smuggle a 2ft into the bedroom, i'll use a canister. already "stuck" to canisters, lah!

thanks for your very kind offer, but i also have a small overhead filter already. it's the one i was offering for lelong, together with a black-rimmed 40cm tank. in fact, i've another one (a brandnew big boy) in the office, waiting for my ex-colleague to come and collect, still waiting...

err, now my 1.5ft tank using a canister filter also.[]

    personally
    i find quarantine tanks
    have no need for filtration
if you care enough to actually quarantine them, you would be doing big water changes every day
not much point in having a filter, imo

sorry, lsz. 16" should be the hang-on filter, right? $35 from petmart.

dea, filter for this quarantine, for me, is more for aeration.

dea, quarantine tank is hang-on filter $35.[]

never liked pumps cos they're noisy. quiet ones would have cost more, plus all those connections for tubings, etc. rather pay for something neat and nice, lah!
