I understand that fishes can help to control the micro worms and water flea population, but i haven heard of any info regarding hydra. How to get rid of hydra? Are they harmful in the first place?

this has been discussed at another post some time back.

Your question is timely...cos I just spotted a few in my tank.

Yes, they are harmful...to fries...(not the french type though).

From what I read, certain snails do the trick. Some fishes too.
But those are also harmful to my shrimps. some other invasive methods are hydrogen peroxide and copper based medication and heating...but I suggest to avoid such drastic measures.

Maybe the fish method will work. Just remove it when the hydras are gone.

yar, mine is a shrimp tank too. but it is densely planted so i wonder whether there are other hydras hiding somewhere among the plants where i cant see. I'll be trying frequent water changes and putting in some rasboras, if it still doesnt work then maybe i'll resort to the desperate measures...
