my 3 feet tank has stabalised... i just added 20 cardinal tetras last week... and now signs of BGA and BBA emerged... my tank was almost algae free before i added my tetras..i do not overfeed my fishes.. in fact actually i feed them once in 2 days.... i starve them then they'll finish their food

dosage of ferts are as follows :
    2 capful of lushgro aqua
    10 drops of lushgro micros
    2 teaspoon of MGSO4
    rice grain of KH2PO4

fert is dosed weekly after water change
PH is at 6.0 (using ada soil)
    about 1 bubble per second
    KH is at 2
    temp is constant 25-26
    lights : 150W MH 8 hours a day

i'm cranking up my CO2 to prevent BBA from spreading
    what else can i do

    I have the same tank size as u;
I have similar problem before when I start to use Lushgro aggressively, but after reducing the dosage, things are getting better.

    My Lushgro dosage is -
3 drops of micro for every 2 days
1 syringe of Aqa for every 4 days.

I thinks your dosage maybe a bit high; Do u have any shrimp inside your tank? Maybe the excess nutrient built-up is causing u problem.

wow....i think the dosage is actually quite low is it not?? somore running MH light..

on my tank that is 182watt pl 3 feet... i'm dosing on 1,3,5.. 10ml LGA perday
then on 2,4,6...16 drops of LGM perday
change water sunday...with dosage of Kno3, sechame equi and po4..

no visible algae problems what so ever...not even green spot.. or green dust.. whatever algae is in the tank was from b4 i changed to this regime..

if you are having BGA and BBA problems check your co2 concentration...
1 bubble per sec is low... i have mine set at about 2.8 per sec// so can round of to 3 bubbles per sec...

augi_ow, what are you using to measure the pH? Is the pH stable throughout the photoperiod or is it just a one point reading? Cranking the CO2 up is fine but you would need to get the CO2 stability down during the photoperiod as well or else you will have critter issues.

i use the those test kits... measured after pumping in 1 hour of CO2
this is before cranking up my CO2...

No... Seachem Equilibrium contains K, Mg, Ca, Fe and Mn. Adding these helps the plant, however, it will not by itself reduce BBA.

BBA problem is usually due to lack of CO2 and macro nutrients especially N.

The BGA problem seems to point towards low N as well.

You should try to see if you can further push up the CO2. You might also want to add KNO3. Do a read up on the Estimative Index by Tom Barr. It will help you understand the dosing of fertilsers.

mmmm, interesting observation ... everyone seem to be dosing a lot of AQA n MICRO ...

the only thing that I did not do is I never change my water - likely to do it once every 9 mths; that may explain y my tank will kanna algae the moment i increase the dosage .

Non-CO2 and CO2 enriched methods are a whole different thing. You would need stability in CO2 levels (high and low respectively) in both methods.

The biggest offender of BBA is NO3 (too little or too high) and CO2 (too little, always!!!!). For this reason, I don't dose Lushgro Aqua because it contain NO3. I want to control things! Hence, I only dose KNO3 for N, K2SO4 for K and KHPO4 for PO4 PLUS Lushgro MICRO for Iron.

Different levels of NO3 (At 0ppm and 75ppm) doesn't induce BBA as Tom Barr found out using quality kits from Hach or LaMotte. CO2 is the main problem here (too low or lack stability from low to high/high to low).
