Wondering for a LONG time what this fish is...

When they are small, they look like Rasbora borapetensis and now they are ~5-7" long!

They are very jumpy and eats almost anything... Anyone has any idea what they are? Hope you can see clearly from the pic...

can't tell properly. the tail shape and coloration looks like a Sawbwa resplens but I don't think they go so big and the paired fins are not coloured.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Tree is correct. Its the Sultan Fish, Leptobarbus hoeveni. The Malays call this species the Jelawat.

Just googled for Leptobarbus hoeveni... It looks exactly like what I have... It's a barb and will grow to 2ft long!

However, the size of my fish is fixed now... Not growing anymore leh... Anyway, cannot find anymore new Sultans in LFS... There are only 8 in my tank now... 3 jumped out of the tank and straight down 14 floors...

Any good fish to accompany them? They are too jittery for their own good... Convicts or Firemonths be good company?

    Yes sometimes seen at C328.

Kanz, if you want juveniles a store near my home has them the last time I went down. You could also try c328 or any of the LFS that usually stocks barbs.

    Hi Justz,
No convicts and firemouths will not make good tanks mates for them. When it gets bigger, when bullied it will turn your tank upside down. It is a powerful swimmer and jumper. I have caught 6-7 kgs sultan specimen in fishing ponds before so they don't come small when food is in good supply and they simply love freshwater shrimps.
You might want to try the Ji Xiang fish( Kelah) or sebarau which is almost similar in nature to them, but beware they also grow big.
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.
