I really have yet to find an algae eater that will replace yamato shrimps. Perhaps larger yamatos will be spared by your apisto.

I'm comtemplating stocking up my newly scaped 4' with apistos but understand that they have a reputation of actively hunting down any form of shrimps in their habitat.
All along, my algae cleaners comprise of otos and yamatoes. Since yamatoes are out of the equation for an apisto tank, what other recommendations are there? I reckoned otos should be safe from apisto aggression?
Many thanks in advance.

You can try SAE.
Nutrient control will cut down algae.
For algae cleaners -- how about the robust Chinese Algae Eater? Cheap and good.

Many thanks to all who had assisted in my query. Think i might have to give the dwarf cichlids a miss

Have not purchased any yet and still considering if i should take the plunge. Apistos are really pleasurable fish to look at and they do come in pretty safe sizes from the aquariums as i can select the bigger yamatos.Originally Posted by mitsukake
However i'm really skeptical when the cichlids grow to adult size.
