Anyone tried the Crystal Shrimps? How are they compared to the Cherries? Are they difficult? They are afterall VERY expensive as compared to all ther other shrimps... But they are SO attractive...

    IMO,

crs is more difficult as compare to the cherries.

But if you condition of your tank is good, you should have no problem and it can even breed.

    what is a crystal shrimp?
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Crystal red shrimps is definately more demanding then cherry shrimps.

Cherry shrimps can do well in water temperature achieved by a fan. Crystal red shrimps can just barely survive at that temperature. It needs lower temperature at around 25C to have optimal color, growth and spawn.

Beside water temperature, CRS requires much better water quality then Cherry.

    My CRS tank parameters are:
    PH: 6.8 to 7.0
    Temperature: 24 to 26C
    KH: don't care
    GH: don't care
    Ammonia: 0
    Nitrite: 0
    Nitrate: < 5mg/l
    Tankmate: no

    They breed like hares.

Sorry, don't really study wheather they are less or more sensitive, that is not my objective to breed less sensitive shrimps, nor I think it is something possible just over a few generations. Keeping sensitive shrimps can be challenging, now breeding $0.35 bee shrimps.

CRS overall is sensitive, however, with proper water management, they can be hardy.

I also know this site, it sold hybrid shrimps. Guess what Blue shrimps cross with Cherry. It does not become purple as one might thought, it is a little greenish.

That's because they are different varieties of the same species.

hi, anyone know the effect of peat? i'm having crs in my 1 oot tank now. then the ph when i did a measurement is scary out of range for my ph test kit mine can test 6.2 to 7.4 only. and the colour it turn out to be more blue than the highest ph 7.4

i don't intend to use co2 injection for my tank so next best way is to use peat. any bro here can share with me their experience??? like to lower ph and why got such high ph??? could it be the ceramic ring i used in my filter media?
