    Hi,

I am looking at ADA Aquasoil plus Powersand for my new 3ft tank. According to ADA guideline, I should use 27litre (9x3) Aquasoil and 6 litre Powersand, which will give me 9cm depth, based on my tank dimension. I am thinking whether I can live with just 18 l Aquasoil & 6 l Powersand instead, which will give 6.5cm depth of substrate.

I have not decided on what plants yet, but don't think will go into those difficult plants. May I know is 6.5cm substrate good enough for most common plants, like foreground hair grass and riccia?

I have also considered Dennerle and Seachem, but they will not be cheaper, except maybe for the fertiliser (cheaper than Powersand).

    Thanks.

6.5cm imho is good enough. I myself have 5cm in the foreground sloping all the way up to the back for 10cm in my 2ft tank.

Agree that 6.5 should be enough but sometime it depend on individual. Some people prefer it to be highter but of cos it will cost more $$
For good or for ill, I will walk on the path chosen by none but myself.

Thanks for all your advice. If I decide on ADA, will buy 2x9 litre Aquasoil first and see how it goes. To me it makes sense to measure substrate in volume rather than weight so that I know exactly how much each bag occupies.
