    how many watts are needed for a 2ft planted tank lighting?
    measurements of tank is 24" x 12" x 14"...

    It all depends on what you want. I use 72W because I want fast growth, and some of my plants like high light.

    I've used 24W, 36W, 55W and 72W on 2ft tanks.

    Be aware that higher lights also mean algae will strike more readily.

    How many fan you have? From some of the bro mentioned here, they say that it make not much different in having additional fan. If you are using PL light with eballast should not be much issue on the temperature unless it is quite high now.

    Adding another fan with the increase of lightings will not make much effect. A single fan will do just to make the water cooler.

    The concern in the increase of lightings is algae. As a general guide for a 2ft tank:
    36W - no CO2 or DIY CO2
    55W - pressurised CO2
    2X36W - pressurised CO2 (lots of it)

    I use 72 + 55 for my 2 feet but it is a wider tank. Algae problems come very fast. but for the plants, it's worth it.
