Comments/Advise for Shots

Get the ST-E2 you must.. A lot of us swear by it. Honestly....I recently learnt some secrets from Benny... Yes, it is possible to shoot at higher F numbers..BTW, I use a 350D..

Typical setting for shutter speed, is 1/200 and above...f number varies between f/16 to f/32...

Also try to get land yourself a macro lens...it will help too.

Seems like everyone's here recommending ST-E2, that shall be on the top of my "buy list"... unfortunately, this would have to wait till I mend my burnt pocket hole...

As I understand it, ST-E2 is only a trigger for the actual flash right? So if I need to get the ST-E2 I would also need a flash to go with it. What would be the best combination?

actually it does matter, sometimes you accidentally capture your own reflection in the image.

Not if you use Benny's method to prevent light from hitting you... Reflection can be prevented....

I would say 550ex/580ex and ST-E2...Well having used a sigma flash together with the ST-E2, I would say the results given by my 550EX triggered by my st-e2 gives better results..and so far my flash didn't burn unlike the sigma one...

Not if you use Benny's method to prevent light from hitting you... Reflection can be prevented....

yah heard at least 3 cases of sigma flash burning. not recommended

looks pretty good. could do with some post processing in Photoshop. and possibly some sharpening for presentation on screen. ALWAYS keep your source separately and never edit them. Only edit copies of your original

I would say the colour seems good, only very light green cast. exposure could be slightly brighter, may be +1/3.

Yup, keeping my original and editing on copies.

Couldn't do much about brighter exposure as I still do not have an external flash, unless anyone's willing to loan me? (just kidding)

actually, the sweet spot in most lenses tend to be from f/8 - f/11 , above/below that , there will be slight degradation (and in some cases, imperceptible) ..

in anycase, once you resize it/sharpen and not shooting for A1 paper or larger.. think it doesn't really matter much.

haha ok I have done some PSCS2 post-processing on baranne's pix. let's see how they compare

what was done in PSCS2:

1. RAW processing in PSCS2 RAW converter, all auto options, flash WB;
2. compose and crop to 2272×1704;
3. add levels adjust layer, auto adjust (looks good: white is white and black is black);
4. unsharp mask at 60%;
5. image resize to 800×600, output as JPEG level 10.

I find the colors slightly off. What i feel lacks in the 1st pic is contrast

the original is slightly warm, the PSed one is doesn't look right... maybe due to the flash

the original looked like old yellowed print. must ask Benny to look at the new one, since he also has a calibrated monitor.

I can see that the fin lines are much clearer, though it does seem that the picture is a bit out of focus when taken. Maybe I should use tripod when taking the picture? But it's difficult as the tank that I took this picture is at the top of a 1.6m tall cabinet.
