    Hi,
Currently i'm using dennerle 30, have to buy refill bottle everymonth... moreover very costly and don produce consistent CO2. yesterday, i tried putting in some sugar into the bottle and can see that it's producing more CO2 bubbles. almost 1 bubble per sec, usually have to wait about 5 sec to get a bubble for dennerle. so i am thinking of DIYing my CO2 supply and have these questions in mind and need some expert's advice:

    1) can i use back the dennerle bottle, empty its contents, wash it and use it to do my DIY CO2? becos i think the bottle will not 'explode', got a filter and tight bottle cap.
    2) what's the ingredients for DIY CO2? yeast and sugar only? or other things too?
    3) how long will it last each time the mixture is made?
    4) how long do i have to wait for the activation of CO2? will i get CO@ supply at the instant?

Please advice. thanks a lot []

one cup of fine sugar, half a tea-spoon yeast. Fill with water to around 80%, some suggested baking soda but I didn't get around to putting it in. Without soda will still work but maybe not so ideal. after couple of hours you will have CO2.

    not sure about dennerle bottle.
guess should be no problem as most diy uses coke/pet bottle.

    ingredients
    2 cups of sugar
    1/2 teaspoon yeast
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    water

my latest mixture last 1 month already and still ok.

have to wait a couple of hours.
co2 will not be produced instantly.

Baking Powder or Baking Soda both works for me. Adding a teaspoon of it makes the mixture last longer like a month. Without it, it lasted only about 10 days.

Me still using the DIY CO2 system which i made for the first time...for my 1.25l bottle, i emptied 1kg of fine sugar into it (are u mad????) i think i was over zealous.. pur hot water inside to melt them, then empty 1/2 - 3/4 teaspoon of yeast and baking soda....

i think it was a bit too much coz the next morning, i found that the effervercence(wrong spelling!!![]) had spill into the tank.. []

But after 1 month, i'm still getting lots of CO2.. can still see the bubbles rising in the bottle...[]

    hi guys,
i have a prom with my DIY CO2.
instead of giving out gas, the bottle seems to be sucking in gas... coz can see that water is sucked up the tube towards the bottle, and it's quite alot ..

    what's happening ??

Maybe the CO2 production is dropping? Try mixing a new bottle if needed. The bubble count is about 1 per 4 sec when stable. When exhausted, it can be 1 bubble in 15 sec.
Anyway - use a check valve as Simon suggested to prevent any backflow.

I believe that the DIY CO2 system doesn't create enough pressure. For me, I'm using my internal filter to draw the CO2 into my tank (kindly refer to the picture below).

    Code:
          __________________________
          /------------------------ /
          //              _______  //
       ___//___ / /_//_
       / / / /____/ o o o o o o (CO2)
       / DIY / /Inter-/
       / / /nal /
       / CO2 / / /
       / / /Filter/
       -------- --------
If you want the CO2 to dissolve in the water, just connect a CO2 reactor (I'm using the UP brand) to the output of the internal filter.

    Hope this little information helps!!!

1 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoonful yeast and 2 teaspoonful of baking soda shd do the trick. The trick is sitr and dissolve the sugar in a beaker using hotwater, mix in cool water to lukewarm, pour mixture into bottle. use a funnel to pour in the yeast and soda. leave it for 15 min and then shake it. put the cap back on. use another smaller bolttle eg. mineral water filled halfway with water. run the co2 thru the water. there you have a bubble counter, a filter to trap alcohol and a safety device in case mixture overflow.

the sugar is the food for the yeast and soda to buffer the solution ... alcohol and co2 are the result. beer

just any small air tight container will do.
container cap have inlet and outlet.
inlet tube will extend down into container.
container is half filled with water, at least higher that the inlet tube.

so when co2 goes into the inlet, it will bubble in the water.
the outlet is not extended so will direct co2 into tank.
count the bubbles in you bubble counter.

the bubble counter is between co2 tank and fish tank.
co2 goes into bubble counter to let you know what is the bubbling rate.
another tube from bubble counter goes into tank.

some c02 will be dissolved in the bubble counter but not all.
the co2 bubbled will go into tank.

earthworm : don't put too much water in the smaller bottle. ** hint hint

yes. some co2 will dissolve into the water. but it will get saturated very soon as the initial co2 output is very high. further, you never need to change the water in this bottle so it will remain concentrated.

another tip is don't pull the tube out fo the cap when changing the yeast mixture as this will loosen the connection. instead, turn the bottle when it's time to change.
