Similar to Juggler's set-up in the first post.
...I love rubies too ...

What you bought is in fact a gravel cleaner... Or water changing tube...
The setup which was originally posted by juggler was a simple air-tube with a air control valve which you can purchase easily from C328.
The tubing which is used for changing water is TOO big for a drip method...
how much roughly is it from C328?

Everything less than 2 bucks... Think not even 1.5... Variable cost is the length and quality of the tubing you buy...
hmm.. don't mind me asking... i understand how this drip method works by siphoning.. but with only the air tube and air control valve as shown in the enlarged picture. so im just asking what siphon thingy can be connected to the air tube? any picture to show?

Mind if I ask how you change water using a tube?
Well, it is the same... Stick the end of the tube into pail A, suck gently (with your mouth) at the other end to create the siphon effect... Control the flow of the water to a drip by using the valve...
You get your siphoning drip...
I believe ah_hup doesn't understand that siphoning isn't limited to those gravel vaccums. Siphoning is actually a process when the pressure in container A forces water through the tube and into container B. It's not really the thing you bought though how it works is the same.
By sucking on the tube, you create a pressure difference that forces the water for A into B.
Get a long airline hose and attach one of those taps (can be plastic or metal, plastic preferred since won't rust) to one of the ends. Put this end into the bucket containing the fish+water from LFS. Put the other end of the tube into the tank.
Suck with your mouth on the open tap for 1 second and you will see that water flows out. Adjust the tap accordingly to how many drips per second you want (I often use 1 drip per 2 seconds) and secure the hose so that it doesn't fall off.
Leave for as long as you feel the fish are not acclimatised.
you don't even need to suck. just submerge the entire line into A, make sure not air is left inside, then take one end (close the tap or use your thumb) and put it into B.
tada!

hmm... you might want to consider using something OTHER than the main tank... overflow

Great stuff!
Now i actually have some confidence of starting a planted shrimp tank without commiting shrimp genocide...
The pail has to be higher than the tank right?
Late post but just wanted to say it worked well for my Yamato shrimp. Thanks for posting!
Worked very well for my fishes.!!
Wow genius! Thks.
