I don't think so, considering the appetites of goldfish who can eat all day long if they are allowed to.
I have rather low lightning(4x2x2ft with 2x55W PL light) and would like to have carpet planting in my tank with my goldfish.
Is it possible to use Eleocharis acicularis as carpet grass while having goldfish in the tank? I understand that goldfish tend to bulldoze whatever edible plants in its way but can the rapid growth of the hairgrass able to overcome it?

I have only goldfishes and would like to have carpet plants in the tank. If hair grass is out of the question, what other options do I have???
Try either Echinodorus tenellus or Sagitarria subulata. Both can grow without CO2 injection and with moderate light.
Goldfish love to stir up the substrates while they are looking for food so I'll not recommend anything really except for floaters like duckweeds and etc.

If the substrate is thick enough, I believe they would not be able to mess up the base fert rite?Originally Posted by PeterGwee
YOu can do without base fert. Goldfish poop should be sufficient. The difference between ET and SS is that the latter has much broader leaves with blunt ends. ET usually has much narrower leaves with sharper tips.
actually you can plant the plants in the tank first... then when its all established then put the gold fish in.. that way when they try to stir it up at least the plants already ahve a good hold and network.
That's the way I intend to do. But I wonder how long can the plants last with the constant bashing of my goldfish...even the toughest plant network will crumble over timeOriginally Posted by ranmasatome
