Woo! Finally! something OTHER than my snails are breeding!
My malayan forest shrimp(thanks to choy and vincent) was berried today. Small green balls about 1mm in diamiter are hanging under her swimmeretts(sp?)
Question is, are they fertilised? They're green and I'm too afraid of touching the female to get her under my lens. and what do I do when the babies hatch? from what I understand they don't have a larval stage and emerge as miniature adults. So I assumed they're omnivorous and already have a... "crap tank" that's full of algae, daphnias, a tubifex worm colony and 1 very over overfed, happy and soon to be evicted betta pugnux(thanks vincent)

Essentially, is there anything else I can do? are the eggs even fertilised? Is it safe to move her to the crap tank? I realise it's a small thing for most but... yeah. hope they don't die on me...

to be honest i not sure what your shrimp is, but it sounds like a normal malayan to me, If it is so, then most prob your shrimp will die as malayan shrimp's offspring need brackish water in order to survive

no his shrimp is not malayan. it is Macrobrachium malayanum and has large eggs so probably will not have a larval stage. However I could ask Cai to be sure.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

So choy, should I be putting the female into a tank with lots of micro-organisms? I'd imagine the fry will be quite hard to catch once they hatch(if they're fertilised. should the eggs be green?)

    A little update:
The eggs are have small white dots at their centers now. Are those the shrimp embryo or fungus? They're still attached to the female.
