Yeah, they are!
Their scientific name has changed a lot recently, infact, they used to be a member of the apisto family...
Sci names were:
Apistogramma ramirez
Microgeophagus ramirez
And now its Papiliochromis ramirezi.
Just thought i would share that with you[]

Currently keeping many wild betta species and other anabantoids.
In Singapore can only find Holland or German rams. And some other not so nice long fin rams. Also come in golden colour. Just wondering if we can find any Bolivian Ram over here?
Anywhere to get them now?
Do they eat shrimp ah? I've never kept one in my current planted tank.
Visit Spilopterus' Tank
Fish of Fury
Rams' don't eat shrimps but maybe when breeding, a shrimp may come close to the breeding area and maybe chase away but shrimps can jump fast enuff to be attack.
there are cases where apisto do also attack shirmps out of curosity.
Cheers!
Benetay
Bolivian rams *are* available, but arent too common.

er....benetay, I think Ram do eat shrimp. In fact all drawf cichlids eat shrimp, it is part of their diet in natural. I think u have good experience of getting shrimp and ram together peacefully because u have feed them well [:]----------------

Simon,
Which farm? Open to public?
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
Are u pretty sure that all dwaft cichlids eat shrimps where did u extract yr infomation from? i haven seen a book nor a website that tells us not to put in shrimps as it may be eaten.er....benetay, I think Ram do eat shrimp. In fact all drawf cichlids eat shrimp, it is part of their diet in natural. I think u have good experience of getting shrimp and ram together peacefully because u have feed them well
in their natural habitat, depending on the species, dwaft cichlids feed on the various offerings which nature holds ready in the corresponding season of the year. even when in the aquarium, cichlids prefer meat, therefore they can not be designated markedly predatory - rathere can they be seen as omnivorous with a preference for meat. in this concern, it should not be taken amiss if they occasionally consider a young fish which fits into their mouth as welcome prey.
customarily, dwaft cichlids take their food from the ground, whereby some of them show a particular jerky way of swimming.
my experience with dwaft cichlids and shirmps are not what u assume as good experience i had 200 malayan shrimps in a previous 3ft tank i had never seen a single one in the mouth of my apisto, okay lets say i never witness it. I got another 2ft cube which holds apisto too with many malayan and yamato none of them are being attack at so far even if i don't feed them for a week.
okay lets say maybe that my A.alenquear is not the very agressive type but i ever add into breeding tank malayan shirmps they don't even care about it.
i have many encounters wif shrimps and dwaft cichlids which vary from apisto to microgeophagus ramirezi.
Dwaft cichlid may attack the shirmps and comsume them but you couldn't conclude that Dwaft Cichlids prey on shrimps in their natural habitats cos neither malayan nor yamato came from that part of the world.
Smaller dwaft cichilids such as the A.trifasciata is no bigger then a malayan shrimp how can the Apisto be able to kill it for food?
for fiercer dwaft cichlids are the a.nij and the a.pan which are among apisto the bad boys of the fishes.
if u got any article for me do tell me will be greatly appreciated.
where did yamato and malayan shrimps came from? not SA.
Just my 2cts worth.
Cheers!
Benetay
Hi Benetay,
Simon is right. It is true that apisto do consume live shrimp, they go wild chasing and killing the shrimps when I once introduced a large batch of yamatoes. Within a few hours the tank is littered with dead and some partially eaten shrimps.
they have never seen a yamato before thats why...in the wild where got yamato for them to chase? maybe perhaps feeder shirmps. Apisto or u mean dwaft cichlids? what kunner meant is dwaft cichlid not solely on apisto.
Cheers!
Benetay
i think this issue is subjective to individual dwarf cichlids. I have seen benetay's apisto living in harmony with yamatos, and i oso experience seeing my female tefe attacking newly introduced yamatos.. i guess sometimes, its a matter of invasion of the terrority which coz the attack.. i guess, there will be some form of shrimps in their nature habitat which they may consume.. but i think its jus instinct to protect their area which kills
