I'm curious, let's say you inject your CO2 in such a way that the CO2 content in your water never goes below 30ppm. However, your CO2 readings fluctuate, for example between 43ppm to 57ppm during photoperiod.

Does this still cause BBA to happen? 30ppm of stable CO2 injection is reccomended but I want to know if BBA can grow if we have the above-mentioned conditions.

Any writings to support the theory that BBA will not grow in water with >30ppm CO2?

No. Your measurements are lying to you. Bioassays...plant health and algae growth tells you more than the test kits are showing. Remember plants and algae don't lie, your test kits will..

Terrence, don't go crazy and add a lot of CO2 immediately when you see algae. Note the current rate and increase it slowly. (eg. 1 bubble every 2 seconds now, increase it to 0.6bps and monitor for a week for the plants/algae and the the critters for a day is enough for stress..repeat it the next week when necessary).

Peter, this isn't related to my tank at all!

I'm just curious, what would happen if we do the above experiment.

    Oh...

No, not if the results were accurate. 30ppm is the max saturation level for most aquatic plants.

Cool. That could be probably why Amano keeps his tanks BBA-free? He blasts the diffusors like crazy, CO2 level fluctuates but never goes below 30ppm.
