Need your recommendation. I'm looking for a slow growing, fine leaved stem plant that will not grow too tall in a high light, high CO2 nano tank. Can anyone direct me? Thanks in advance.
    Warm regards,

    Lawrence Lee

Waa.... slowly growing stem plants are already few in numbers. And you looking for fine-leaf ones as well?

I am not sure. But maybe you can try the below non-fine leaf stem plants. They are slow-growing, in my experience.
    - A.reineckii
    - Hottonia
    - Lobelia cardinalis
    - Polygonum sp.
    - Tonina ?

If you want fine-leaf ones that grow slow, why not go low-tech and do away with the CO2?

How about that so-called Mermaid weed (Proserpinaca palustris)?

I used to have this plant, except it grew very fast from 1 stalk to a hugh bunch (cut and plant) within few months.

Thanks for all the replies. I've decided on Hottonia. Now to find some...

Yes, that's what the LFS told me last night too. But the Dennerle plant list has this to say:
    H 15 Hottonia inflata

    Tropical water violet
    Southern North America
Characteristics: Delicate stem plant with small, densely packed, multipinnate leaves.
    Shoot length: Approx. 20 cm.
Growth rate: 3-4 cm per month.
    Propagation: Top cuttings.
Requirements: Demanding: Plenty of light, soft water, regular fertilization.
Special note: Potentially an annual plant when cultivated in the aquarium.

In the actual*DENNERLE plant list: yes
I've tried growing it long time back and it died on me so this seems like a challenge to pick up again.

Anyway, got a stalk FOC from LFS last night. It's at least 40cm long (so much for Dennerle's 20cm data ) and it's grown in dim light, almost no CO2 conditions, in its old rockwool pot. The leaves have shrunk in thickness to mere hairs! (Talk about a demanding plant) Or maybe the LFS gave me a different plant to Hottonia.

BTW, under what growth conditions will it inflate?

The 20cm shoot length and 4cm per month growth rate really attracted me though.

My Hottonia does not grow fast and I do my trimming every 2-3 weeks. One thing for sure is that they do not grow tall. Usually after a certain height, they starts to creep horizontally in mid water. Give them lotsa lights and the "head" of the plant will be big and beautiful like a Tonina.

Unfortunately as it is one of my favourite plants, I will only sell it to you if you are keen. I do not wish to see its value drop like the beautiful Taiwan moss, etc. I believe you many people have it in their tank now. I know Neon has it beautifully in his tank.

Hope you will treasure the plant.

    Cheers!
