a quickie fish tank update... taken without flash, so a little blur
tonina is not growing too well, hottonia getting troublesome to prune, may replace them all with an easier to manage echinodorus.that's an echinodorus kleiner bar at the left.
that's stargrass floating on top, wasnt' growing too well on the ground..

oops.. ok: fixed. I've put the large image on the thread itself
is that e rubin off the middle to the left? once it's tall will be very nice...
hottonias are nice.
They are are worth replanting if can grow into nice big bushy crowns. me still trying to conclude what it needs...a bit of an enigma...in one tank it does well for awhile[3months] then kaputs, another one never did well but now flourishes.
among the diff is the kh and lighting is higher in latter, both at lower temps ~26c...compiling data...
you may also wanna keep this as the fastest grower in the tank? rest looks like slow growers...is that your intention?
echinodorus are really nice and would really suit your layout theme should you decided to rip the hotties out...
toninas are easy for some[like tom!] but not for me... lower temps[26c below] and kh 2-3, rich substrate and bright light [from mh ideally, so lower leaves don't turn yellow quickly] often stated as a requirement...

its a e. kleiner barr. anyway, the tonina is roughly still the same height.. its my 2nd pruning of hottonia, grows rapidly in the tank...
nice tank, would like to see how it matures...
I think you did not block your tank lights when you took this photo? Lots of reflection... you may want to try blocking your light from the front and see if you get a better picture.

Joe
its a quickie update after all...
basically compared to the last pix

I'm trying to improve the driftwood layout... there is some vague mound shape there and the hairgrass is slightly improving..
Is that hairgrass in the foreground or E tenullus?
You have a very big tank and IMO layout can be better if you stagger the plant somehow so that foreground does not look like a parade.
Why is the water that blur huh? Still recycling?
dunno what you mean about the staggering..
its hairgrass.
water blur cos of food and ada soil being mushed around by 100s of corydoras.
I think Nicky means that the transition between foreground and background is too sudden. I'd get lots of Blyxia japonica and plant them in and out of the driftwood and in between here and there.
kleiner barr is rare...very niceOriginally Posted by loupgarou
i think you need to restore order and create some flow by terracing/staggering the hg as suggested.
the c balansae[?] in bg need direction? a river plant, looks nice if grows with flow of water imo...looks like angry octopus...

I'm thinking I should remove the mound of wood behind the echinodorus on the right.... if I don't want to have so strict a delineation of foreground/background...
anyway, I'm going to get rid of the tonina cos its not growing at all..
hottonia as well. grows too fast
good idea, you will have a wealth of crypts to choose from. my favourite at the moment is c x-hybrid...looks like cowgrass. fresh green with some red...Originally Posted by loupgarou
