Bought a few cherries not too long ago. Though they look fine, except 1 casualty, they have became super red, like those fried cooked shrimps . Thought cherries are supposed to be tranparent with red patches & spots? Could it be the liquid fertilisers in my tank, cos i hv added more than directed? Perhaps someone can advise here. Thanks.

How old is your tank? Most likely is due to high temperature, if you dont lower it, the rest of your cherries will be "cooked" also

Cherries have potential to become very red - what shade of red depending on their diet mostly. So if they are not DEAD and RED, you are obviously doing something right... many hobbyists will be glad to have their cherries so red

there shouldnt be any probs with such colouration and dont worry about it. If all of it are so red, then its offspring will prob be equally red that way when u intend to sell it, many will covet it... heh anyway i believe the redness is not due to diet

Erm.. what sort da details? 4 Cherry barbs, 1 neon, 1 cory, i Chinese algae eater, 7 cherry shrimps, 1 CO2 system (nutrifin), many species of plant which i am still doing research on their names & char., taiwan, erect, christmas, java moss (which all are dying ), lights 36w on 8 hrs with a single unit fan, temp: 24 ~ 28 deg, PH ard 6, KH & the likes i dont hv the equip to measure. I conduct 30% water change once a week, followed by seachem flourish liquid fertilisers of 5ml dosage (instruction is ard 1ml for my tank spec but it seems inadequate to me). Other fert included Root Monster & Fert. balls, added ard once a month. I clean the gravel of lapis once a week using a gravel cleaner. I also got a snail in it, perhaps a few?

Erm... what cherry shrimps eat? I only feed my cory algae pellets. The rest of the critters share the food with it.

My tank is 2 by 1 by 1.5 ft. It seems smaller than many people tanks here. Perhaps i didnt do a good scaping, that's why it seems small in space. Yah, mayb tank was not mature. I only add them in recently, the cherries used to live in a smaller tank & they hv a mix of transparent & red color. I was worry that my cherry barb will attack them then.
