    Hi,

Anyone has experience keeping a crypt-only (with lifestock but no other types of plants) tank?

I am currently keeping one and wonder if anyone has related experience/insights to share.

Due to the slow growing nature of crypts, i personally believe some of the usual practices adopted for planted tank cna't be applied.

    thanks for any input.

Try a low-tech crypt tank. Some recommendation.

    Lights: 1.5 to 2 wpg
    CO2: none
Substrate: good base fert + peat (0.5~1cm) + gravel
Fertilisation: no need to fertilise so frequently... only when needed
Water change: about 1 every 1 month or 2, after tank stabilised

Try to plant as densely as possible from the begining. Start with some hardy Crypt species like C. wendtii, C. albida or C. undulata. Sensitive crypts can potentially melt down and fouls the tank, especially when it has not stabilised.

    Hi hi,

Glad I am doing most of the things you mentioned, except the fact that I did not add any peat to the substrate.

May i know what is the photoperiod of the tank?
How much of the water do you replace during each water change?
Given a choice, you would inject co2?
Lastly, do you add liquid fertilizer at the recommended dosage or at half strength?

    Thanks for sharing!!

About 10h of photoperiod should be fine.

I change about 20-30% of water each time.

I used to inject CO2, but now... no. I don't have to keep track of the fertilisation and CO2 level and don't have algae outbreak problems without CO2 injection.

I do not use any liquid fertisers at all. Just a pinch of KNO3 about once a month. I just feed more to my fishes.
