    Hi,
I bought 2 algae eaters.. i was told that they are chinese algae eaters but i search on the web, they don look like those in the web. here's the physical description of the algae eater... wonder anyone can give the exact name. the body is like a number of 8, it has a tail, rather short. i was told that it can grow up to about 1.5-2 inches. it sticks to the wall of the tank. eats soft algae or newly developed algae. the underside of the fish looks like that of the oto except that it's like the number 8. unfortunately, one died when i reached home. it seems fragile, two of them are hurt, can see wounds on them, the one which is alive has a wound with blood.

Sounds like a torrent sucker - a kind of loach found in rapid flowing waters. It doesn't actually eat algae but aufwuchs, the minute organisms that live in algae growth. Not a good community fish - requires high oxygen content and strong water current, otherwise it will usually waste away.

Another fish that is oft mislabelled, mishandled and not for the misinformed.
