unless you can confirm that the brand of table salt you are using is iodine free......if not it may be better to use aquarium salt......

    actually
why chlorine/iodine/the other halogens are used as sterilising agents is not because of the ion, but because of the hypochlorous ion which it forms in solution
the iodine in table salt is iodide, and i have no idea why 'it is said' that table salt shouldn't be used

if you're still worried about it, you can get aquarium salt, but I would use it if i can get a fine enough salt grain, as it dissolves faster (personal preference)

I think "they" say table salt can't be used because of the anti caking agents they add to it.
    (whatever that is.)

If I remembered correctly, the Lo-Salt I used to fertilise my plants uses CaSO4 as anti-caking agent. To me - maybe not much harm or concern using table salt. Adding aquarium salt doesn't guarantee that the white-spotted tetras will recover. Nor adding table salt will necessarily kill the fish.
It's late - maybe I am writing nonsesne...

    kf, you would be right
mgso4/caso4 are commonly used as anticaking agents in salt
    again, i don't see a problem

only thing i find troublesome with using the salt in my house is because it lumps up and takes forever to dissolve

or can go for a run and dip yourself in the tank.

    it is pre-dissolved already
