jus leave him to handle the snail population
Snails flourish when you have overfeed the fish and excess food are lying somewhere in the tank and not eaten.
For me I control the snail population by employing Yamato and even common shrimps (those used to feed arrowana). They will scavenge the gravel to pick up the excess food. And having less food available for the snails, their population was kept in check.
Having snails is not necessary a bad thing. I purposely throw in tens of the Ramshorn snails in my new tanks to eat up algae on the tank glass which are inaccessible by the Otos and CAE - like those parts where plants grow thickly against the glass above the substrate.
The snails also eat up dead and dying leaves and this becomes fertiliser for the plants again!

thanks for the fast respond. i have not started feeding because i only have SAE and shrimps at this moment. problem is that some of my plants' leaves are having holes now...
The holes are not made by the the snails unless the leaf is already dying. The snails only eat algae and dying plant material. Give the puffer some time. It will eat the baby snails and thus help you control the snail population from exploding. The bigger ones that it won't eat, either you remove manually or leave them alone. Personally, I leave them there to handle the algae and dead plant material.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
The only bad thing abt these snails is that it would would look abit unsightly. It makes a tank look neglected. If you have put in a puffer, you juz have to wait a few more days. It will surely clear off. I've yet to see a puffer eat a snail yet, but so far it has done wonders controlling them. Do NOT put in another puffer or you'll be looking for someone to adopt the puffer in the very near future.
well, I've read that rams (blue, dwarf) eat snails too.. so maybe you can try these instead of aggresive puffer. even though puffer is a guaranteed solution
Dwarf chiclids like apistogrammas do eat snails too. Can consider them.
yes, I do agree apistogramma do a good job in clearing the snail prob.. [] (I dont sound like promoting apisto rite?)
no wonder no snail in breeding tanks.
Cheers!
