don't think you need a 2229 for a tank that size. I have an 80cm (2ft 8in - 25 gal) and I'm fine with a 2222. If you prefer self-priming can look at the 2026 from the Pro II series. They all allow flow control using the output valve. Check here.
Hi,
I'm planning to get a bigger tank, between 2-3 ft tank. Which model of Eheim will be suitable? From reading some of the previous posts, it looks like the 2229 might be good.
Here's what I plan to have in the tank:
- a community tank of small to medium sized fish.
- will have plants but since I'm new to planted tanks, I don't think it will be that heavily planted
Some of the things that i know i want in the filter are:
- ability to control the water current... need slow current
- don't want to suck water with mouth
Can anyone advice on the most suitable model? And if anyone knows the ave. price that would be great.
Thanks for listening and the advice!

hi, i've Prof II 2026 ($230 from Nature) for my 3ft tank, and Ecco 2233 ($158 from B328 Clementi) for my 2ft tank.
both are with priming system.
P-L-E-C-O-R-Y=M-A-N-I-A!!! YEAH!
FLORENCE, capital of the region of Tuscany, has a population of around half a million inhabitants, spreads on the banks of the Arno, between the Adriatic and the Tyrrhenian seas, almost in the middle of the Italian peninsula. It is a city which bustles with industry and craft, commerce and culture, art and science.
no need 2229!
2026 for a 3ft of your setup is enough
and if you get 2ft, just get 2024
no worries and they will meet your requirement too
2229 is for me
Cheers!

Thanks for the advice!
Does anyone know roughly how much and where's the best place to get it from?
Thanks again!

I use the ecco series (can't rem which but its the smallest one) and it works fine, but you need to get used to the priming system. and the current's a bit strong unless you use a rainbar.

i recommend going for the biggest model of filter you can get your hands on
ie the 2028 and 2228
both have adjustable flowrates, but the 2228 is not self priming
however, all you need to do is suck on the outlet pipe and it'll fill up
as for the experience bit = not so heavily planted
uh-uh
always plant as much as you can
this makes your life a lot easier
it's easier to replace the uglier plants than to rescue an algae infested tank
and the sucking is only done during the very first time.
subsequently, whenever the canister is re-connected to the hose after cleaning, the reopening of the valves of the hose will automatically start the siphon into the canister.
Thanks for all the advice.
ok I'll look into 2026 and 2028... I guess I'll have to go to Nature and have a look, the Eheim site doesn't show some of the models on their list.
As for experience on plant, slowly I'll get there... currently the plants I plant tend to die on me. []

spida, for the pro II models you have to go to the Eheim site and click on the Pro II picture on the home page. It is not listed in the Products page (weird!)
