Diatom? Just remove them manually would work the best and fastest. Don't expect algae eating critters to do all the work.

Diatom- Single-celled algae, mostly photosynthetic, that form silica cell walls, can grow singly, in chains or in simple colonies.
    From here.

Brown algae is very common at the start of a new tank setup. Remove manually, Otocinclus helps too. They'll go away when your tank has matured.

But I heard somewhere that Apple Snail also eats plants.

For me, I used Oto and Zebra Snail to keep it in check in my low maint tank. As I change water every 6 months for this tank, manual cleaning would not be as frequent.

Apple snail eats lots n lotsa plants. Please do not add into planted tank or else ur plant will be gone. I'm one of the victim when the LFS owner told it helps to eat algae. Later then i realise they prefer my plant more,.

For every one feet of tank size, one dwarf brittlesnose pleco. It can be brought from Gan's Aquarium at Lim Chu Kang.

Its size is small. 10mm longer than your average oto. It works very hard!

    Hope this helps.

Yeah, my apple snail do eats plant as well but that is after finishing eating the brown algae. My 3ft tank is 90% brown algae clear after 3 days introducting the apple snails. Now start eating my nanas...
