    Hi guys,

Decided to take the afternoon to go down to Sitex 2005. It was of course a terrible mistake.

The journey from Chua Chu Kang to Singapore Expo took me a whole 25 mins, but trying to get into the carpark took me about 45 mins. Finding a lot was about 30 mins. It was madness as there was a few other exhibitions there, namely big boys toyz and something else which I can't remember.

In any case, I was hoping to buy a copy of Microsoft's Age of Empires III and perhaps sign up for a broadband internet access. However, I was haressed by credit card companies, insurance companies amongst others. Almost bought a pair of croc sandals at the show too, although I don't know why they have a booth amongst memory cards and hard disks. Osim was also there with their healthcare products, next to some USB card readers. And there was also a children educational toy store. Pioneers was there selling their mini hifi and plasma screens too.

I had the impression that Sitex was a IT/PC show and never expected it to be some kind of "Pasar Malam" style market. Obviously, I couldn't find the game there and the folks at the broadband booth was less than interested in doing my business. However, the food festival in the middle of the IT show was good and I had some sweet corn and taiwan sausages.

Judging from what the show has become, I think it will probably last another one to two year at best. In the meantime, they will try bastardize the event by incorporating some other smaller shows together and rope in all sorts of unrelated exhibitors in a weak attempt to improve themself.

This is probably my last trip to Sitex. I'm still going to Funan tomorrow to do what I didn't manage to do at the show. At least I won't be hounded by credit card and insurance companies.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Benny, sorry to hear you had a nasty experience. I wanted to drop by Sitex to get some portable hard disks but I suppose I saved myself from the same experience, minus finding the parking space of course.

If you want to get AOE III, you're better off buying the set as a bundle with the previous two AOE versions or just the game itself from one of the shops at Sim Lim. I forgot the name of the store but I got some games cheaply there. Wait about a month or so, they should have sales for Christmas.

    Sitex has become so bad?

I still remember the times that I enjoy going to such exhibitions but since they have been holding most of them in Expo, I only go selectively since it is so far from my place.
    Cheers,
    Joe

They were feeling rather warm and irritated from the insurmountable human traffic and that resulted in them trying to push brochures at just about everyone in the face.

Definitely not the place to see people at their best. Besides, I was too busy trying to fend off all the flyers and also looking out for them on the floor so that I don't step on them and slip.

    Phew!

Yes. I was thinking that when I give up this hobby in the near future, I would have more time.

Need some encouragement to stay in the hobby. The hectic travelling is killing my interest and the fishes.

    Cheers,
... I think kids would beat me flat out as well... except maybe strategy games, where duck hands and duck legs still stand a chance... unlike real-time shootouts... really amazing at the things that they can do...

Or maybe lets jio them to a game of "goh li"...
    Cheers,
    Joe

Most kids I know are not interested in marbles. I remember I used to be so happy with just a small bag of them. Now, I can't find any kids who wants them.

These days, it's Sony's PSP with loads of games and accessories. Seems like it cost more to keep kids happy nowadays.

My experience with Comex/ Sitex is like another trip to Sim Lim Square. The discounts there are no big deal anyway.

Now with Dell pushing the PC prices down, it doesn make a big difference to get new PC set at such events.

btw, wat's the market price of AOEIII?
    Cheers,
    Andrew

I always hoped that such shows are a place for the exhibtors to bring some in some cutting edge IT equipment, technology to show. But alas, it is always been a sales thingie for as long as I can remember...

At the end of the day, sales matter...We all gotta eat mah..

I guess it's primed for regional exhibitors and tourists, rather than locals
    Cheers,
