I posted earlier before for advice on doing a low maintenance tank in beginner's corner and here is the end product which I did for Pertapis Children's Home. I used their old 2 feet tank and added these stuff.

    Equipments:
20w 2feet dolphin brand light (pretty good, change the FL tube as it was actually meant for fishes) running 8 hours a day
supposedly the smallest internal filter (old one, but powerful, use for circultation)
    1 fan (24 hours)
1 DIY net to prevent kids from throwing food into the tank, had that problem in the first week when trying to settle the tank.
1 air pump leading to a bottom filter filled with a small sponge and bio-pellets.
1 bottle of anti-chlorine (few drops for water change)
1 bottle of fertiliser (few drops for water change and monthly)

    Fishes:
    10 neon tetras
    10 red tetras
    10 harlequins
    6 corydoras
    4 red bellied dwarf gouramis
2 suckers (the onw that has a guitar shape body)
    2 SAE
    2 golden algae eaters

    Plants:
    4 nanas on logs
    2 1/2 bunch of difformis
    3 bunch of becopas
    1 big bunch of pennyworts

    Total cost: est $100

I taught some of the older kids how to maintain the tank and they seem very responsible and understand the need of balance in the bioload. But I opted out of the CO2 format to reduce complexity hence the choice in plants (following Tom Barr's and Diana Wistclad in the stickys)

Here are the pics after 3 weeks from starting it off. Surprisingly the difformis and becopas are growing like mad. Sorry I cannot give the full pictures due to filesize constraint. Anyway like to thank all of you for your advice, especially digimon and another guy (whom I know as a friend, but not his nick here).

The tank is coming round nicely Good selection of easy plants, keep the bioload low and you shouldn't have any problems Good job!

Do keep us posted and the kids must be proud of the tank, maybe some shots them with the tank?(if they are not camera shy)

It's great to know that some people have big hearts and are willing to spend time and money on others who are less fortunate than them.

Whilst the tank may be simple, I'm sure it will be a source of fascination and enjoyment for the kids for some time to come. Great stuff!!

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

You might want to consider uploading the pictures in the AQ gallery and link them here. It'll be a lot easier to view too.
