Suitable DSLR for long term

Hi guys,

Don't want to hijack choy's thread...
Want to know what is a suitable DSLR camera to get for the long term. especially for me, entry level, know abit here and there only one ...

Cos the number of pixels offered on digital cameras is fulling morse's law lor... today get 8mega pix, tomorrow suddenly 11mega out... sigh... and all the functions available on the camera ... blur like sotong...

so how?

the number of megapix, once it is beyond 4-5 Mpx or so, is utterly irrelevant.

It all depends on your budget. Getting a camera is relatively easy and a Canon 350D will allow you to print A3 size photos with no loss of resolution. This camera will continue to take good pictures for easily two to three years before you yearn for another one.

However, the problem with these investments are the subsequent accessories such as lens, filters, flash, bags, tripods etc, etc.

Yes, Vincent, I agree with the problem of the investment in the accessories... Just got meself lens, filters and a new bag for my 350D... Yet to get a good flash, going to try my old flash and see if it will work... I am slowing down and pacing myself liao...

Most important is to pace yourself... And learn, learn, learn!

It's already the envy of many. More importantly, you will get great pictures (if you mastered the basics of photography).

that's very true... once know the basics, a simple camera and the correct lens, one can do lotsa wonders without the high end stuff...

and choy, then why those camera companies continue to push up high pixels since it is useless?

photography is just like sex. everyone thinks that bigger is better. in reality technique is more important, as long as your "pixel count" is not too low.

just a related point which i'd like to run by the more seasoned photographers for your opinions.

with regards to investing in the system, the key is good lenses as they last longer in product life and can follow your investment to a newer digital? in fact good lenses can last a "lifetime".
