might be Vallisneria nana...
Hi hi...
Saw this plant at C328... But no idea what it is... Looks like an Echinodoras sp. but the leaves so narrow... Hmm...
Oh, it spreads by runners, cos I saw runners...
Thanks!!

might be Vallisneria nana...
it could be echinodorus angustifolius or a vallisneria v. natans

Interesting, thanks!! ... Never seen a vallis (or an echinodorus) with leave so narrow... Would be nice to use it as a background as it looks MUCH better than the the more common vallis...

That's a val. I got it from a friend a year ago. Nice for background.
Cheers!
It should be a vals

E. tenellus - long version. Possible?

Really dun think so. Leaves VERY long for tenellus and very soft feel... Sort of like a vallis...Originally Posted by barmby

Got it from Teo Farm before and still have it in my tank. I suspect some kind of Vallesneria as it sends out flowers (while at Teo Farm) to the surface. This is unlike Echinodorus.
Yes - nice for background. But only for a while. It grows very long and runs very wildly. It exceeded my 1.5ft high tank and covered the water surface. Maybe those with 2ft tanks would suit this plant better.

Juggler's tanks
I have those... bought them from C328 too... thomas, you saw them at the tank behind right??
2 feet tanks also too short for it... covered by tank very quickly... I just did a "hair cut" for them...
Didn't have an ID for them too.. I thought they were the long version of a type of hair grass which Terence mentioned before in the forum...
Yup... At the back of C328... If they are vallisneria var nathans, then don't give them haircut... I think like all vallis, the cut leaves will look old soon and new ones will sprout very fast...
Hey, they do look like thick hairgrass, think can use them to replace my current vallis... Time for a re-scape? heh heh

Oh, btw, either Echinodorus angustifolius or Vallisneria sp. var nathans, the leaves will grow to 40cm to 80cm! (1.5ft = 45cm and 2ft = 60cm)...

what king of runners are there?
leaf all over or like this one?
Um, guys, how come it isn't Cyperus helferi? I'm pretty sure it is Cyperus helferi.
cyperus does not produce such runners.

Then I've been having the wrong ID for the plant in my tank for a long long time
The leave size of the above plant is much slimmer and goes by long runner like echinodorus or valisneria.
The one in your tank looks like cyperus. The crown/rhziome of cyperus should be red and propably propagates by splitting at the crown.

I saw this plant too in C328 on that book collection day. Definitely it is not Cyperus helferi, as I saw the actual Cyperus helferi plant in that tank also for direct comparison.Originally Posted by |squee|

Should have taken the Cyperus helferi residing in the same tank as a comparison... It definitely is not Cyperus helferi, the leaves for this plant are smaller.
