i'll be going to buy a new CO2 set next week on my off day. The present one i had is the JBL ProFlora which i bought from Havelock. But i found it very lousy, after 1 month of buying, it had spoil and not functioning even though the cylinder is still heavy. i brought it back to exchange.
But one month later now, it has spoil again.
i'm quite disapointed as i had pay quite alot for it. But i'm not going back as i had give up hope on that JBL thing.
Now i'm going to buy a new one, my budget is less than $300, if possiber lesser even better. Times is bad.
Any good place to recommend, or is there any brand you can recommend?
    Thanks alot!

    hi TA

which part of the system is not working? The regulator or the tank? I know it is very frustrating to bring it back, but i think you should.....coz you have already spent the money.

David is right, u should find out the problem. If its only the regulator that is down, replacing it is cheaper than buying a new set. I'm sure Keong Seong can help u, the aunties there are nice people.

Definately agree with the rest.... find out wats wrong first. If it's the regulator problem, and you seriously want to change it, juz buy the reg. No need the tank. As you said, times are bad..... good luck

hi TA there is nothing wrong having got to change faulty product......as long as you know that you have not damaged it yourself, they should change it for you as there may be batch defects that the shop owner may have to query the distributor.

David is rite, you shouldn't feel paiseh after all if it's not your fault. In fact you should be pissed for selling to you defective products.
Anyway, to replace juz the regulator will cost only half the price of a whole system.
    Cheers!!

hi, i'm new to the forum but old to this hobby....

i use to own this cylinder and the regulator is badly manufactured but i did use it for more than a month . the cylinder thread is also not quite standard. do get a new regulator from a vendor whom will allow you to replace if it does not fit.

For $300, you can get a 10kg cylinder from Soxal. I highly recommend the Dupla valve (i have 3) and the only part i ever had to replace was the rubber washer which expands and contracts a lot...

    my 2 cents.

Went to Petmart today and purchase two items :
1st is a Ocean Free 3 feet PL light set for $120.
2nd is the CO2 set. But it's not UP or JKS brand, it's not even a cylinder with the reactor or solenoid.
That guy which i think call Ben recommand me this product when i ask for advices on CO2 set. it's call CARBO PLUS. It's a device which ran on electric. It has a black box about the size of a plam which we plug on to the main socket with the light timer. Then we place this device beside the aquarium tank.
Then from the black box a carbon metal bar is place into the tank which will let off the CO2.
    i bought it at $210
Is there any of you guys here using this device?
i want to hear your comments.

    ......

the zac carbo-plus isn't used very widely over here
    1. you cannot send the output to a reactor or diffusor
    2. it's kinda bulky
    3. not very cost efficient as opposed to canister co2

    advantages
    1. no risk of having high pressure devices in your house
    2. no need to use reactors/diffusors (in fact, no way, but bell reactors should be ok)
    3. cheaper (initial cost)

After second day of using, giving my comments to the misleading negative bad points which i myself is worry when i'm on my way home after the purchase.

    1. you cannot send the output to a reactor or diffusor
Ans: it's not necessary for a reactor or diffusor as the carbon bar is giving out very very fine bubbles which is just like what a diffusor did.

    2. it's kinda bulky
Ans: Not at all, i purchase this as it is really small, the main box is only the size of my palm. But i agree the carbon bar which i put in the tank is abit long, but i guess that is just the length of a reactor too.

    3. not very cost efficient as opposed to canister co2
Ans: err ... don't know yet leh, have to calculate in long term already.

But one thing for sure is ... my ricca is bubblinggggggg

bulky as when you put it into your tank
you can't fight with a diffusor for the sheer size
    also another thing
    the availability of the refill
