UVs most probably did not destroy the TEs, but causes them to bind either together or to something, thus rendering them inactive to be used as fertilizers or trace elements to be used by the plants...
Stan, I would say, after the algae are destroyed, they came out the UV as dead cells and will start to rot... i.e. they are converted to potential ammonia, nitrite and nitrate producers! It would be good if regular water changes are made with the use of UVs...
